Five arrests after gang armed with hammers rob Dublin jewellery shop

first_imgGARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED five men after a jewellery store in Dublin was robbed by a masked gang armed with hammers.Four men wearing balaclavas entered the shop in Balbriggan in north county Dublin at around 5pm this afternoon. The gang threatened staff and smashed up the store causing extensive damage before fleeing with a large quantity of jewellery.The men escaped in a black saloon car.Shortly afterwards, Gardaí stopped a taxi on the nearby M1 motorway and recovered a large amount of jewellery. All five occupants of the taxi – four men in their teens and one man in this 40s – were arrested at the scene.The men are currently being held at Garda stations in Ballymun, Balbriggan and Coolock. The black saloon car was found abandoned in Balbriggan this evening.Gardaí say the investigation into the robbery is ongoing.last_img
